Burma at the Crossroads
with Jeff Greenwald | April 10-19, 2015 (9 nights, 10 days)
Explore Burma’s vibrant culture; understand its tumultuous history; speak with locals to gain an understanding of contemporary life in Burma; and meet social, arts and humanitarian groups shaping the future of the country. Burma at the Crossroads is a responsible small group journey developed by Ethical Traveler and Global Exchange Reality Tours. For more information, please email Alessandro Isola, Reality Tours Director, or call 415-255-7296 ext. 225.
As Burma opens up to the outside world, incredible opportunities now exist for travelers to experience the country, its people and their culture, ahead of the wave of tourism that is sure to come. The changes of the past year and a half have been extraordinary and the mood on the streets of the country’s urban centers is one of palpable optimism. All of this makes Burma a fascinating place to visit.
In addition to visiting many of the country’s stunning sites (Shwedagon Pagoda, the pagodas of Pagan, the ancient cities around Mandalay, U Bein Bridge, etc.) we will dig deeper and meet with human rights advocates, members of Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League of Democracy, craftspeople and artists. Our local guides will offer unprecedented access to local people and groups.
Seasoned Burma-hands are working in conjunction with Burmese in Burma to make this a truly special experience. Global Exchange Reality Tours and Ethical Traveler champion responsible and ethical travel and design journeys to maximize support for the local communities and people we visit.
